Q&A with Sophia Banks-Coloma, Stylist and Designer:

Being a stylist sounds like the greatest job in the history of jobs (except possibly being a food critic). We had a chat to Aussie Hollywood stylist Sophia Banks Coloma to find out what the life of a stylist is like! The lovely Sophia did a fantastic job styling four cast members from The Hunger Games for all their various premieres and outings, is currently in talks for a *spoiler alert* TV show and somehow manages to find the time to co-design for her own line, Whitley Kros. As well as this, she also wears amazing shoes.

Sophia Banks-Coloma attends the Vanity Fair and Chrysler celebration of The Eva Longoria Foundation \

FM: When did you realise you wanted a career in fashion?

Sophia: I think at about 11 when I asked my mum to take me to fashion drawing classes . And I used to love reading Vogue Bambini and making outfits, which were far beyond a normal teenager - plaid shorts , with cool long socks and brocades. It was either that or acting which I also did for a while but in the end fashion won my heart.

FM: How did you kick start your career?

Sophia: I actually did a UTS degree in business first as I thought it would be a good foundation and it was really allowed me to run my business and also when I am consulting to fashion brands I really understand the business side. I have owned a store, have a fashion label, can sew , styled and costume design film. I did start a masters in fine art majoring in fashion design but it has had to been put on hold as I have got so busy.

FM: What is the average day like for a Hollywood stylist like you?

Sophia: It is very crazy, long days. Some days I am in the office preparing moodboards and working on request. A lot of days I am pulling looks from showrooms and fittings . Most clients come to me, but I also have clients that get paparazzi a lot so we do shopping and I do a monthly closet for them, where I set out clothes for them for the entire month for everyday .
Then there are the photoshoots which are amazing and in all locations- last week I did a Kate Nash music video and found myself at a rundown circus.

FM: How crazy do things get around those big events like the Oscars?

Sophia: Soooo crazy . Award season is madness and I have to start preparing in November or December; there are so many awards shows. This year I had 9 people attending the Oscars and/or parties.
And a week later hunger games premiere with 4 cast members and the night of the premiere I went from the red carpet to a Qantas plane and flew to Sydney ... needless to say it was intense.

FM: The people you styled from The Hunger Games looked AMAZING at the premiere! Talk us through their outfits.

Sophia: Jacqueline emerson- wore beautiful Reem Acra, amazing Van Clef Arples- notice the necklace is like a mocking jay .

FM: Which other celebrities have you worked with?

Sophia: Maggie Grace, Sharon Stone, Alicia SiIlverstone, Michelle Rodriguez, Hannah Simone (New Girl), Kirsty Alley, Christa B Allen (Revenge), Ali Cobrin (American Pie), Kirsten Chenoweth, MArisol Nichols and Jennifer Aspen (all from GCB), Jennifer Stone (Wizards of Waverly Place), Shay Mitchell (Pretty little Liars), Kelsey Chow (Spider Man), Dominki Garcia (Star City), Katie Le Clerc (Life Unexpected), Erica Christensen, Laura Vandervoort, Jessie Metcalfe, Wendi Mclendon-Covey, Jennifer Beals, Jessica Gomes (Sports illustarted model), Jessica Mcnamee (The Vow), Sharni Vinson (Step Up 3d), Nicki Wheelan, Brooke Burns, Kelly Preston, Arielle Kebbel (90120), Melissa Rauch (Big Bang Theory).

<span>FM: I understand that you love using Aussie designers! Who are your favourites?

Sophia: I love supporting Aussie designers, right now I am about to head to fashion week to find more dresses for the red carpet. I also work with a few labels consulting them and styling . I love a lot - Josh Goot, Collette Dinnigan.</span>

FM: Honestly, watching the Rachel Zoe Project makes me feel stressed out! Is being a stylist actually like that?

Sophia: Yes, it is stressful as there is so much pressure with the red carpet and to find that dress that makes a moment.

FM: Would you ever want a reality TV show?

Sophia: I am in talks right now for a show.

HOW EXCITING! We can't wait for Sophia to have her own show! In the mean time, check out some more of the fantastic styling work she's done below:

Jesse Metcalfe:

Anthony Franco Suit and Shirt, Aldo Shoes, and Hackett London pocket square!

Of course, Sophia has like, a million famous clients, but out of all of them, our favourite would have to be Amandla Stenberg because she is just so cute! She plays little Rue in The Hunger Games and to be honest, I was rooting for her to win!

Tony Ward dress, yellow velvet belt, Kate Spade gold oxfords

Amandla wears Belle Sauvage printed mini and Calvin Klein flats. Jacqueline wears a Preen dress, Ista jewelry, Edie Parker clutch and Jerome C. Rousseau heels

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2012

It might be (it is) a little chilly these days and we might be (we are) extremely disappointed in society to hear that Lara Bingle is getting her own reality television show and we are most definitely dying a slow death fuelled by jealousy toward all those lucky people who will be at Groovin The Moo this weekend and get to bask in the handsomely hairy glory that is Matt Corby BUT... then we remember that little ray of sunshine, that faint beacon of hope, that feeling when you get when you go to the register and find out that that everything is actually an extra 40% off which also comes in the form of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Of course we were all a little devastated when we heard that Dion Lee and Alex Perry wouldn't be showing but the amazing opening show by Romance Was Born certainly lifted our spirits:

It seems like everyone's getting in on the whole superhero thing but we'll let Romance Was Born get away with being 'tho mainstream' just because this show is everything you'd ever want a fashion week to start with. It was fun and fresh and as Jes would say, a little cray cray.

These are just a few of our other favourites from the rest of the week:

Nana Judy:

While this show wasn't nearly as 'cray' as Romance Was Born, in their own right, Nana Judy did well to show off their colourful casual clothes (lame alliteration right there). I do love all those dyed pants in the final picture but I sincerly hope that we don't have to start writing posts about how bras are not shirts. :/

Blessed Are The Meek:

After Tupac's cameo at Coachella, it looks like holograms are yet another trend which we're going to start seeing a lot more at live shows of all kinds. Kudos to Laser Vision for their amazing light show which only made Blessed Are The Meek's show even better.

Despite the fact that those eyebrows look like they belong on that creepy Cadbury ad.

Seriously that's just creepy.

And to divert our eyes from the death above, Akira:

Ginger and Smart:

Who doesn't love Ginger and Smart? That first blue dress is crazy beautiful!!

Even though I said we were picking out our favourites, I just wanted to share a few looks from Lisa Ho:

I'm more than a little devastated to say that I didn't really like much of what Lisa Ho put on. :(( But it's Lisa Ho! I know!I Hence the double sad face! I do like the colours it's just... I don't know. To me it all seems a little dated... Also I really hate those streaky under-dye hair thingos the models have going on. I hope for their sake that they're just clip ons or extensions so they can head straight for the bin. Where they belong. Seriously this isn't the 90's and you are not a bratz doll.

Ok I should stop being mean. Let's end on something positive and pleasing to the eye.

As if you didn't see that one coming.

I really will stop being mean now (there are people out there who love you Nicki Minaj, you and all of your... uniqueness). Anyway, this last collection is by Zimmerman and is probably my absolute favourite.

Miranda (who is a god in my eyes) from The Devil Wears Prada says, "Florals, in spring? How original." *shoots look of derision which makes me whimper from the couch*

Is my god wrong? I hate to say it, but yes. These are the nicest florals and pastels I have seen in a long time!! And somehow, they look extremely original, and not in the Nikki Minaj kind of way (see above photo if you're not sure what I mean).

And this is my absolute absolute favourite dress by Zimmerman:

How is it even that pretty?! I have no idea what that paint flicky technique thing is called but whatever it is, I love it. And that colour is so spot on!

Gosh and that's only really just touching on the amazing-ness (at a slight loss for adjectives) that was Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Next time round it would be lovely to actually go... (mostly because I want some gift bags because lets face it, who doesn't love gift bags?!)

I think it's time to stalk down these designers' online stores now! And eat some cake and listen to Teenage Dirtbag (don't judge me- I know you're all going to rummage through your CD collection and reminisce on the good old days when Wheatus was cool). But do comment and let us know which show was your favourite!

- Varsh

Printed Scarves:

As you know, I spend way too much time on Netaporter, when I really should be doing something productive. But let's face it - doing productive things is not half as much fun as ogling at printed scarves:

ETRO Printed silk-chiffon scarf £195.83

WESTON Opal printed silk-habotai scarf £165

WESTON Fluorite printed silk-habotai scarf £165

MARY KATRANTZOU Stip Valley printed modal and cashmere-blend scarf £295.83

ERDEM Floral-print silk scarf £225

WESTON Elestial Quartz printed silk scarf £165

I can't possibly choose which of these is my favourite. Which naturally means that I'll have to buy them all, even if it results in me becoming Netapoorer. Yes, I've been planning that joke for quite some time. Sometimes typos can be very inspiring. Anyway, these scarfs are made out of a silky/chiffon-y material and aren't particularly useful for keeping you warm. However, just like detachable collars they can add life to simple jumpers and allow you to make a lot of use out of staple pieces, eventually saving you a lot of mula. So it's not really fair for you to expect them to keep you warm as well as doing all this. That's just greedy.

Fashion with a Price Part 2: Sandblasting in the Denim Industry

Nothing is perfect (with the possible exception of Meerkats).

And that also goes for the fashion industry. Fortunately, it's a flaw that is easily fixable, if only everyone was willing to cooperate.

About this time last year, I wrote a piece on the use of sandblasting in the denim industry, a technique used to create that worn out look in jeans that is known to cause silicosis - a lung disease that can be fatal. By 2010, over 1000 affected workers had been identified in Turkey alone.

Nearly a year on, it seemed appropriate that I checked up on the situation. Last year, we supported the Oxfam campaign which targeted The Just Group. The campaign was successful in getting the company to commit to not place any further orders for sandblasted denim.

And more progress has been made! Yay! Both Versace and Armani are now among the many fashion designers, including Burberry and Gucci, who publicly refuse to engage in this inhumane practice

Versace - Milan Fashion Week Womenswear Autumn/Winter 2012/2013Giorgio Armani - Milan Fashion Week Womenswear Autumn/Winter 2012/2013

Burberry - Runway - LFW Autumn/Winter 2012Gucci - Milan Fashion Week Womenswear Autumn/Winter 2012/2013

Just recently, SBS Dateline interviewed workers in the denim industry whose health had been affected by sandblasting. It's a tragic story that more people should know about.

Some brands claim that they do not engage in sandblasting but have yet to issue a public ban while others claim that they are in the process of gradually putting a halt to ordering sandblasted denim. For a full list of brands, click http://www.cleanclothes.org/news/armani-bans-sandblasting.

Worse still, brands like Dolce & Gabbana have failed to ban the practice or at least provide information about their sandblasting policies.

So that's why the Clean Clothes Campaign has launched a mass protest initiative, attempting to get as many people as possible to sign their name and show how strongly they feel about stopping sandblasting. And, no pressure but YOU SHOULD BE ONE OFTHOSE PEOPLE.

Seriously, it is as easy as filling in a few simple details such as your name (which really shouldn't be too hard!) and your country etc. So give this link a click http://www.cleanclothes.org/campaigns/killer-jeans-still-being-made#action, sign the petition (we've already done it and we're feeling pretty pleased with ourselves!) and then harrass your friends (about the campaign, not about anything else)! Because this is molto importante! And then go and bake yourself a cupcake because you deserve it!

- Jessica

PS. Yes, that is Kate and Wills printed on the cupcake. My royal wedding hysteria is far from over. Be afraid.

Forever New's Tribal Muse Collection Review:

After the amazing Pop Art collection, it became clear that Forever New is no longer that-store-where-everything-is-a-varying-shade-of-beige-or-pale-pink. The Tribal Muse collection is equally amazing, or perhaps more amazing. Comparing collections is somewhat reminiscent of sibling rivalry so I won't go too far into it! They are both amazing and I love them both!

Even though I'm not a fan of fur (fake or real), I have to admit, the styling for this shot is amazing! And the model Marnee Kidd is absolutely stunning in every single shot.

JA0927 Phoenix faux fur coat $149.99
CJ1014 Janaya ¾ sleeve bodysuit $29.99
DN0745 Manhattan super skinny jean $79.99
ER1791 Kaley hoop earrings $12.99
NL1320 Lydia statement necklace $24.99
SE1165 Ollie over the knee boots $129.99

And how amazing is the scenery! I'm not sure if they are taken in a real location, as opposed to some sort of computer generated Matrix reality. I don't know because in all honesty, I know very little about nature and computers.

KN1084 Stripe tasseled cardigan $69.99
CJ1057 Tara zip back tee $29.99
DN0901 Oslo piped pocket jegging $79.99
ER1679 Lillian drop earrings $14.99
SC0934 Knitted fringe scarf $29.99
RI0621 Mikayla oversized ring $16.99
SE1082 Syan wedge booties $99.99

This is probably the coolest outfit I have seen in a very long time. I wasn't really sure what I thought of capes but now I know...

JAZ0910 Sylvie wool blend cape $149.99
JDCZ0740 Charlie long sleeve jersey dress $79.99
HA0418 Felt trilby hat $39.99
GL0256 Faux fur trim leather gloves $39.99
HO0219 Colour block footless tights $12.99

I just cannot get over how beautiful this model is! The same goes for this whole outfit.

JA0892 Estella skirted mac $129.99
DN0745 Manhattan super skinny jean $79.99
ER1791 Kaley hoop earrings $12.99
SC0965 Aztec print scarf $19.99

And this is just such a lovely little outfit; both the necklace and the dress are so stunning.

JDCZ0741 Alexia jersey dress $89.99
ER0702 Round Jewelled stud earrings $12.99
NL1080 Chandelier necklace $39.99
HO0013 120 Denier Opaque tights $14.99
SE1165 Ollie over the knee boots $129.99

And holey guacamole, this is amazing:

DRCZ3172 Alyssa tassel shoulder dress $119.99
ER1633 Charlotte round studs $12.99
CL0655 Candice jewelled clutch $39.99
SE1113 Raine peeptoe platforms $89.99

Sorry if this post has been rather repetitive. After all, there are only so many ways you can say .

And now for the pieces that I thought were the most amazing/lovely/pretty/stunning:

Chandelier Necklace New $39.99Alyssa Tassle Shoulder Fitted Dress New $119.99

Candice Jeweled Clutch New $39.99Alexia Textured Ponte Dress New $89.99Michaela Beaded Detail Fitted Dress New $129.99Syan Wedge Boot New $99.99Winona Wrap Skirt Dress New $99.99Riya Shell Stud New $12.99

YUMMO. Can't wait to go shopping!

Skimmer shoes are probably one of my favourite doesn't-serve-much-of-a-practical-purpose-but-still-looks-nice-so-what-the-hell items.

To clarify, they fall into the same kind of pool as vests, capes, fingerless gloves, detachable collars and feather hair extensions.

Oh wow:

Madonna (Image from StyleBistro)

That is impressive.

Anyway, let's face it, none of the aformentioned accessories have any real purpose besides being aesthetically pleasing.

And feather hair extensions don't even that one going for them.

It really does sadden me to admit that Skimmer Shoes are also a little impractical. Blisters often arise, they expand (a lot) and I most certainly wouldn't wear them after it's been raining as their low sides make is so you feel like you're traipsing around in mini-portable ponds. If they even exist.

BUT, I suppose I should give a little more credit to Skimmer Shoes.

After all, they are a form of footwear (which is generally accepted as a norm when going out, unless you're some kind of non-comformist and in that case I may have already offended you with the feather hair extensions comment, my apologies).

And... they are quite useful for those awkward situations where you don't know whether to wear sandals or shoes. These are nice slip on in-betweeny alternative. Oh the perils of our lives...

As Jes would know, they're also pretty great for when you get bored and you can examine your feet and then proceed to tell everyone around you (namely me) that you can see your toes through your shoes. All the time.

MOST importantly, they look nice. They come in heaps of different colours, prints and materials and you can get them flat-like, or with straps (for those of us who love to pattern our feet with funky tan lines). And they generally aren't too expensive, which is always a plus.

So Urban Outfitters have a GREAT range of Skimmer Shoes on their site at the moment.

Here are a few from Cooperative:

Cooperative Lace Up Grosgrain Ballet Skimmer 34
Cooperative T-Strap Skimmer 15
Cooperative Leather Lace Up Skimmer 39

Those ones are a really cool cross between shoes and sandals... Shandals?? Hmmmm....

Cooperative Suede Cap Toe Shoe 34

And Kimchi Blue:

Kimchi Blue Canvas Skimmer 29

(I really really love that one!)

Kimchi Blue Ditsy Floral Skimmer 29

(And that one!)

Kimchi Blue Simple Lace Skimmer 34
Kimchi Blue Lace-Up Peep-Toe Skimmer 29

All of them really...

These ones from Kimchi Blue also caught my attention:

Kimchi Blue Floral Patchwork Skimmer - $29Kimchi Blue Floral Patchwork Skimmer- $29

Not really sure when I would ever wear them but they are super duper cute!

Now this last pair that I'm going to show you could probably be defined as cute as well. Just not by me because I have a fear/hatred of all things feline-related.

Cooperative Applique Flat- $34

Yes, that is a... cheetah? I think.

Yes, I'm pretty sure.

So the verdict in this case is that pro's outweigh the cons, and we love Skimmer Shoes. Just don't wear them for hours and hours. Or if you're going to be walking heaps. Or if it's been raining.

Or, just suck it up. :P

Zara's April Collection:

A new Zara collection? Yes! Get ready to see some seriously pretty things. There are lots of neon brights paired with simple white blouses and blazers. Not to mention a particularly amazing *spoiler alert* sequined cardi and lots and lots of tropical prints, which surprisingly, just make me sad because I am not on holiday. Sigh. That's enough talk from me, it's clothes time:

As nice as this collection is, I'm a bit upset. Why? Well, Varsh got to review the Marcs collection...meaning she got to look at Cesar Casier for an extended period of time. It just doesn't seem fair.

Although...this dress is incredibly beautiful and I would buy it in a heartbeat:

Seriously it is absolutely stunning! Maybe it makes up for the lack of Cesar in this post...

Or, maybe not....

MARCS: Autumn/Winter 2012

In case you hadn't noticed, Autumn/Winter fashion is kind of what we live for here at Fashion-Musings.

We also kind of live for people associated with the word 'Marc.'

Marc Jacobs. Camilla and Marc. Marc Something (Jes's future kid, unless I can convince her otherwise).

How weird is this fashion/Marc thing? Seriously! It's not even Mark. Marc. So specific! And everywhere!

Anyway, today we're having a looksie at MARCS, and even better, their Autumn/Winter 2012 range.

Be prepared to drool. A lot.

For more from MARCS, check out their website: http://www.marcs.com.au/Marcs-Home.html

Ok there's like, a puddle on the ground. Kidding that's kind of gross.

Anyway how amazing are those shots? Pretty sure I dreamt about that powder blue coat... Pretty sure someone could (in a totally non creepy way) dream about those models too!!

Fun fact: MARCS model Cesar Casier is really into cooking! He likes baking scones! I like scones! (not him, obviously) How can you possibly look like that and be able to cook?!

Then again...

Ah today's a good day!! :)

Canine Couture: Pugs for Happy Kids

Pugs are cute...

Couture is amazing...

Time to explain and stop being ambiguous.

The amazing website LuisaViaRoma has teamed up with some of the world's most AMAZING designers and gotten them to customize a pug soft toy. The toys are being auctioned as we speak and all the money goes to UNICEF Italy's Project ARISE which aims to help kids from Bangledesh who are leaving on the street by giving them a good education and finding them a home. Ngawww! The campaign is called PUGS FOR HAPPY KIDS and it certainly is making a lot of people happy!

As much as I would like to help, I most definitely do not have €1050 (I wish I did!)! To keep track of the auction's progress, click this link https://api.shopstyle.com/action/apiVisitRetailer?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmembers.ebay.com%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FViewUserPage%26userid%3Dluisaviaroma&pid=popsugar&pdata=1213043. It certainly looks like UNICEF is going to be able to help a lot of kids with this campaign and props to the people who came up with it for being so innovative!

Anyway, that's enough talk from me, I know all you really want to do is see some pictures!

Fun fact: Valentino actually owns six pugs!
